"The Killing Fields" Mickeymo's photos around Phnom Penh, Cambodia

A TripAdvisorâ„¢ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Phnom Penh, Cambodia by TravelPod blogger Mickeymo titled "The Killing Fields" Mickeymo's travel blog entry: "On the boat from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh I met Paul from the UK. He has been working on privately owned boats (so has seen a good part of the world... you should see his passport... barely an empty page!) and was taking some time to travel before returning to the UK. The boat ride was uneventful in itself. The c**** was wide and the boat sped down it so we did not actually see much that I remember. We arrived in PP by noon and I found a hotel (a non-descript basic hotel) that was near the riverfront. I hired a motorcycle taxi for the afternoon and got right to sight seeing. My first stop was the Tuol Sleng Museum (formerly S-21... the secret prison of the late 1970's Pol Pot regime). The prison held an estimated 30000 people imprisoned by the Khmer Rouge. When the Khmer Rouge fled in 1979, they left behind nearly 6000 photographs... each prisoner carefully catalogued. The prison was a former school and would appear so if not for the barbed wire and eerie ghost-like feel. One 'ward' of the prison has large rooms containing nothing except for a bed (and shackles) and a large photograph on the wall of a dead corpse laying on that very bed in that very room. Shockingly surreal and haunting. Some class rooms had been divided into many small prisons by brick walls. Another 'ward' has all the remaining 6000 photographs ...
